We have unlived lives for all sorts of reasons: because we make choices; because society constrains us;
because events force our hand; most of all, because we are singular individuals
―Joshua Rothman, "In Another Life," The New Yorker
I completed my doctorate in clinical psychology at the Wright Institute in Berkeley, California. My education entailed clinical experiences within public, private, university, and hospital settings. My training internship at California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC) in San Francisco was accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). At CPMC, my clinical work focused on the intersection of medical illness and psychology.
I am interested in treating a variety of conditions, and also enjoy working with individuals who want to transform their lives through creativity and innovation. In fact, my fellowship training at California College of the Arts (CCA) involved working exclusively with artists and other creatives in the fields of writing, architecture, design, and general art. I gleaned from these experiences that engagement and interest in you and in your work—what you say, feel, and experience, as well as what becomes embodied through your art—provide us with rich insight into often overlooked aspects of your life. Working with artists also taught me how to help people connect more intimately with their own self and to their creative process and, in doing so, affect lasting change.
I also hold a background in mathematics. Math's beauty, structure, simplicity, and depth changed my outlook on life. The power to reason and symbolize is at the root of all languages. A mathematician learns to render the invisible visible. I now do the same clinically in the consulting room, by helping you understand yourself and others more deeply, overcome obstacles, and reconnect to your own passions and ambitions. I believe it is the synergy between thoughtful, logical engagement and innovative processes that leads to lasting outcomes in your life. For these reasons I also enjoy working with techies.
Moreover, I bring global experience to my clinical practice. I was born and raised in Europe, and eventually lived in three different European countries. Before settling in Los Angeles, I had the good fortune of traveling around the world. My lifelong globetrotting affords me appreciation and respect for other cultures, and for that which differentiates us.
I believe the discipline of psychology requires introspection and lifelong learning. In this vein, I feel it is important to give back:
I have worked as a professor of psychology for graduate students, and I continue to lecture on various psychological topics. Finally, I have been on the opposite side of the couch in therapy myself and know the process well from both ends.
I look forward to meeting you.
